3-10 August, 1500, Paradise in augustines
PREVIEW: 2 AUGUST, 23.50
Wanton Theatre Company are thrilled to present the latest project from critically-acclaimed duo Rabinovitz & Hay after their debut musical Shower Thoughts garnered 5* reviews at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
In Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Daphne is turned into a laurel tree for eternity to protect her from the unwanted advances of the god, Apollo.
a crown of laurels follows the story of Daphne, an art critic on a much-needed night out with her sisters. It is a radical reframing of the classical Daphne & Apollo myth which explores art’s relationship to rape culture; a delicate two-hand musical about survival, power, and speaking out.
We workshopped laurels in a production at On The Rocks Festival in April and are delighted to mount a full production of a brand new version of the show at Paradise in Augustines this August as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!
