Cock

Mike Bartlett's Cock, a play about sexuality labels, bitching, and beef, was my first production as dramaturg. This play is about what happens when we attach labels to sexuality, and how they can limit our experience of the world, and it was a very personal project for me. By meticulously researching the dramatic style and the issues around the play, I was able to ask questions of the process in rehearsal and in production meetings, and really inform the final product without being overbearing in another artist's process.

I also hosted a talkback after each show, with members of the cast and crew and some representatives from Saints LGBT+, a University LGBT+ organisation. Guiding these discussions and talking about my research and responses to the play, was really rewarding, and I think the discussion generated by this piece was really valuable, and helped the audience to truly connect.
